3 things you should know about Spanish

Here's the unvarnished truth about what it takes to be fluent in Spanish.

1. It takes consistency

You have to practice every single day. The best way to do that is to use what you've learned and apply it in everyday conversation with someone you know or someone you've just met. Basically, make it a point to say something in Spanish to anyone who speaks Spanish. Bonus points if you use some new vocab or expression that you've just learned.

2. It takes being easy on yourself

If you're the type to constantly go over every mistake you made, you can keep on beating yourself up about it. That's not energy-draining at all, amirite? Or you can just let it go. Laugh it off and then tell yourself "I learned and will do better when I get the chance next time around."

3. It takes asking for help

If you prefer learning on your own, you'll realize that at some point that you can't do it all alone. It goes back to my #1 tip above. You need to practice with someone. Else it's all just sitting there in your brain and not being used in real life. And what's the point of that? But if you prefer learning with others, then you're going to have a much easier time by having a guide show you the ropes. You're going to learn things you never would with YouTube videos, TV shows,* language apps, or picking up what people are saying out in the real world without some base of knowledge to stand on.
